Simple Weddings
Simple, registry-style weddings on the Sunshine Coast
No fuss, no frills, no wedding production. Just a quick, legal marriage with a private celebrant. Registry-style, paperwork-only, courthouse-style — whatever you call it, we do it across the Sunshine Coast for $700.
Registry-style marriages on the Sunshine Coast
If you are looking for a simple, registry-style wedding on the Sunshine Coast, you are in the right place. In Queensland, there is no government marriage registry office where you can walk in and get married. Instead, all marriages are conducted by registered celebrants — either religious or civil.
That is where we come in. The Sunshine Coast Marriage Office provides a registry-style marriage service through private celebrants. It works exactly like a registry office wedding: short, simple, focused on the legal requirements, and affordable at just $700.
We are not a government office and we are not a courthouse. We are authorised marriage celebrants who have built a service specifically for couples who want the legal marriage without the wedding.
Courthouse-style weddings without the courthouse
Many people search for "courthouse wedding Sunshine Coast" or "courthouse wedding Noosa" because they want a quick, no-ceremony marriage. In Australia, courthouses do not typically perform marriages. That function is handled by celebrants.
Our service is the closest thing to a courthouse wedding you will find on the Sunshine Coast. It is:
- Quick — the legal ceremony takes just minutes
- Simple — no vows, no readings, no personalisation, no aisle
- Legal — fully compliant with the Marriage Act 1961
- Affordable — $700 flat fee
- Flexible — we come to you anywhere on the Sunshine Coast
Paperwork-only marriages explained
A paperwork-only marriage is exactly what it sounds like. The focus is entirely on the legal paperwork and the minimum words required by law. Here is what happens:
- Before the day: You complete your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), provide your identity documents, and wait the required one calendar month.
- On the day: You meet with your celebrant and two adult witnesses. The celebrant says the legal words, you each say "I do" (or words to that effect), you both sign the marriage documents, and your witnesses sign too.
- After the day: We lodge the paperwork with Births, Deaths and Marriages Queensland. You can then order your official marriage certificate from BDM QLD.
The whole appointment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. That is it. You are legally married.
Who is a simple wedding for?
Our simple marriage service suits a wide range of couples:
- Couples who do not want a wedding — you love each other, you want to be married, but weddings are not your thing
- Second or third marriages — you have done the big wedding before and just want the legal part this time
- Visa and immigration purposes — you need to be legally married for a partner visa or other immigration process
- Couples planning a celebration later — get the legal part done now, throw a party when it suits you
- Practical couples — for tax, superannuation, next-of-kin, or estate planning reasons
- Couples on a tight budget — you want to be married without spending thousands on a wedding
- Private people — you do not want an audience, just the legal commitment
The difference between simple weddings, elopements, and full ceremonies
These terms get used interchangeably, but they mean different things:
Paperwork-only / registry-style (what we do)
The legal minimum. No personalisation, no styling, no ceremony experience. Just the legal words, the signatures, and the paperwork. This is our service.
Elopement
An elopement is usually a small, intimate ceremony — often just the couple — at a beautiful location. There are personal vows, often a photographer, and a genuine ceremony experience. It is more than paperwork. If this is what you want, we recommend Elopement Collective.
Full wedding ceremony
A traditional wedding with guests, a venue, a personalised ceremony, and all the trimmings. This is not what we offer. For a full-service celebrant on the Sunshine Coast, book Josh Withers.
What you need to get married on the Sunshine Coast
Regardless of what style of marriage you choose, the legal requirements are the same across Australia:
- A completed Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) lodged at least one calendar month before the ceremony
- Valid identity documents — usually a passport, or birth certificate plus photo ID
- If previously married: proof of divorce or death of former spouse
- Two adult witnesses (aged 18+) present on the day — we offer a witness service if needed
- Both parties physically present — no online or proxy marriages in Australia
Use NOIM Easy to prepare your Notice of Intended Marriage step by step.

Simple wedding FAQs for the Sunshine Coast
Common questions about registry-style, paperwork-only, and courthouse-style marriages.
Can I have a registry-style wedding on the Sunshine Coast?
Yes. While Queensland does not have government marriage registries like some other states, private celebrants like us offer the same kind of service. Our registry-style marriage is a short, no-fuss legal ceremony focused on the paperwork. You get the same legal outcome as a registry office wedding — a valid Australian marriage — without needing a government office.
Is there a courthouse where you can get married on the Sunshine Coast?
There is no dedicated marriage courthouse on the Sunshine Coast. In Queensland, marriages are performed by registered celebrants, not courts. However, our paperwork-only service works exactly like a courthouse wedding — quick, simple, and focused on the legal marriage. We are private celebrants offering a courthouse-style experience without the courthouse.
What is a paperwork-only marriage?
A paperwork-only marriage is a legal marriage with no traditional wedding elements. There is no aisle, no personal ceremony, no reception, and no wedding production. You meet with the celebrant, say the required legal words, sign the documents with two witnesses, and you are married. It is the simplest and cheapest way to get legally married in Australia.
How quickly can we get married on the Sunshine Coast?
The minimum waiting period is one calendar month from when your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) reaches us. So if your NOIM arrives on 1 April, the earliest you can marry is 2 May. In rare and urgent circumstances, a shortening of time may be possible, but this is not guaranteed. Plan for at least five to six weeks from start to finish.
What is the difference between an elopement and a paperwork-only marriage?
An elopement is typically a styled, intimate ceremony — often at a beautiful location with a photographer, personal vows, and a romantic experience. A paperwork-only marriage is purely the legal act with no ceremony or styling. If you want the elopement experience, we recommend Elopement Collective. If you just want to be legally married with no fuss, we are the right fit.
Do we need to have the ceremony at an office or specific location?
No. We can meet you at any convenient location across the Sunshine Coast. Many couples choose a beach, a park, their living room, or a quiet café. There is no requirement for a formal venue. You just need enough space for the two of you, your celebrant, and two witnesses.
